Coho Salmon
Coho Salmon
The Coho Salmon run starts out in the Pacific Ocean in about August and can run well into November. There are thousands of fish each year that return to their spawning beds to start the cycle of life all over again.
Coho Salmon run about 10 lbs with a few 20 lb fish taken each year
Unlike their cousins the Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon usually take their fight to the air when hooked. These fiesty fish will make many spectacular jumps and will fight you all the way to the boat. Many of Coho Salmon are lost at the edge of the boat because the fisherman is not paying attention and let their line go slack.
The meat of a Coho Salmon is less oily than that of a Chinook and should be prepared with addition cooking oil or butter to keep them moist. Prepared properly, many people consider the Coho as the best tasting Salmon.
